More than an ancient writing system, Baybayin offers a window into Philippine history, language, and identity. Broadcaster and journalist, Howie Severino, will introduce the origins, evolution, and practical use of Baybayin in modern times. Learn to read and write basic Baybayin while exploring its historical and cultural context.

Howie Severino

Over the years, Howie Severino’s interest in baybayin evolved into a deeper advocacy. He has frequently spoken about Baybayin to audiences around the Philippines and even overseas, most recently at the Frankfurt Book Fair. His Baybayin journey has coincided with a spike in enthusiasm for the native script among Filipinos around the world.With artist Danielle Fernando, he is working on an illustrated book on Baybayin, “Ang Puno ng Liwanag” (“The Tree of Light”), intended for children of all ages.
